Avebury Trusloe
Situated approximately 1/2 way between Swindon and Devizes, Avebury is famous for the huge bank and ditch surrounding the three prehistoric stone circles, one of which is the largest in Britain. At the Great Barn Museum the Wiltshire Folk Society's collection is displayed and you can see examples of thatching, blacksmithing and saddlery. Avebury Manor dates from the late 1550's and nearby Silbury Hill is the largest prehistoric mound in the country. Avebury has several small shops including a post office, a parish church and a recently refurbished public house. For the sporting and outdoor enthusiast there is a cricket club, numerous footpaths and bridleways along the Ridgeway.
